Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has entered into an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with France’s Naval Group to jointly market evolved Scorpene-class submarines to friendly nations as part of the Indo-French Horizon 2047 strategic partnership. Signed on October 16 in New Delhi, the MoU aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in the global submarine export market, leveraging MDL’s indigenous manufacturing and Naval Group’s advanced design capabilities. The upgraded Scorpene submarines will include indigenous enhancements, such as DRDO-developed combat management systems and AIP modules, making them attractive for buyers seeking advanced yet cost-effective platforms. This collaboration highlights India’s growing position as a leading exporter in the defense sector and reinforces maritime security ties, particularly with nations like Indonesia, which may be a potential recipient of these submarines.
