MDL aims for P-75(I) submarine deal with TKMS by March 2026.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) is poised to secure a multi-billion-euro deal with ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) for six advanced submarines under Project 75(I) by March 2026. This agreement, valued at approximately 70,000 to 80,000 crore ($8-10 billion USD), aims to enhance the Indian Navy’s underwater capabilities amid increasing maritime competition in the Indo-Pacific region. The submarines will feature Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology, crucial for extended submerged operations, and will ensure a significant transfer of technology and local manufacturing as part of the Make in India initiative. MDL’s Chairman expressed confidence in finalizing the contract, which is seen as pivotal for India’s naval modernization and self-reliance in advanced underwater warfare systems.
