Mahindra, Embraer Join Forces to Bring C-390 Millennium Transport Aircraft to India Under Make in India Push
Mahindra and Mahindra signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Brazil’s Embraer Defense & Security to introduce the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft in India. The formalization took place in New Delhi on October 16, 2025, coinciding with the inauguration of Embraer’s national office in Aerocity. This agreement builds on a memorandum of understanding signed in February 2024 and focuses on advancing the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft program. The collaboration aims to foster local manufacturing, assembly, supply chain development, and maintenance within India’s aerospace sector. Both Embraer and Mahindra intend to position India as a regional hub for the C-390 Millennium, catering to domestic and international markets. The aircraft, operational since 2019 with Brazil and since 2023 with Portugal, has a payload capacity of 26 tonnes and versatile capabilities including cargo transport, air-to-air refueling, and humanitarian missions. The partnership supports India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, enhancing defense self-reliance and boosting economic growth and technological advancement. Following the announcement, Mahindra’s stock rose 2.14% to Rs 3637.30.
