The Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), part of India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is advancing the Navigation Radar for Integrated Combat Suite (NRICS) for the Indian Navy’s submarines, currently in the integration and testing phase. This sophisticated radar will enhance submarine navigation, surveillance, and surface warfare capabilities, crucial for operating in contested waters. NRICS features low-probability-of-intercept characteristics for stealth, enabling precise targeting with advanced weapon systems. By integrating this radar within future submarine projects like Project 75I and Project 77, India aims to bolster its underwater deterrence and operational effectiveness in the Indo-Pacific, reflecting a strategic response to escalating geopolitical tensions.
