Lockheed's C-130J leads India's 80-unit MTA tender with local content promise.
Lockheed Martin’s C-130J Super Hercules is emerging as the frontrunner for India’s procurement of up to 80 Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA), valued at $6 to $8 billion, aimed at replacing the aging Antonov An-32 fleet in the Indian Air Force (IAF). The aircraft’s proven reliability, along with the IAF’s extensive experience operating 12 C-130Js since 2011, positions it favorably against competitors like Embraer’s C-390 and Airbus’s A400M. Lockheed’s commitment to local manufacturing through Tata Advanced Systems Limited, promising over 30% local content, aligns with India’s “Make in India” initiative. The successful bid is crucial for enhancing India’s tactical airlift capabilities, vital for border logistics and humanitarian operations.
