LAT Aerospace's electric uSTOL UAV ready for first flight soon.

LAT Aerospace has announced that its electric ultra-Short Take-Off and Landing (uSTOL) UAV demonstrator is nearing its maiden flight following successful ground roll tests, marking a significant milestone in India’s aerospace innovation. The UAV, designed with an impressive lift coefficient (CL) of 5, allows for a take-off distance of just 40 meters and boasts a 60-minute endurance, facilitating autonomous cruising between major Indian cities like Mumbai and Pune. This development underscores the startup’s commitment to revolutionizing regional air connectivity through hybrid-electric STOL platforms, which can operate from compact air-stops without reliance on large commercial airports. In parallel, LAT Aerospace is advancing research into hybrid-electric propulsion systems and indigenous gas turbine engines, reflecting a broader trend of fostering in-house capabilities in India’s defense and aerospace sectors. The successful execution of this project could significantly enhance UAV utility for urban, regional, and logistical missions, thereby positioning India at the forefront of next-generation aviation technology and self-reliance in aerospace capabilities.
