INS Sindhuvijay to Undergo Mid-Life Refit Enhancing Combat Readiness
The Indian Navy is set to enhance its underwater combat capabilities by docking the INS Sindhuvijay, a Sindhughosh-class submarine, for a mid-life refit at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Visakhapatnam by the end of 2025. This overhaul involves critical upgrades, including hull repairs and modernization of sensors and weapon systems, ensuring the submarine remains battle-ready against evolving maritime threats. The Ministry of Defence has granted the Acceptance of Necessity for this refit, underscoring India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense and the importance of maintaining a robust naval fleet, which currently comprises 16 submarines across various classes. Such initiatives reflect a strategic focus on sustaining operational readiness in a dynamic maritime environment.
