Indonesia values India's submarine expertise for future defense plans, says visiting minister.

India and Indonesia reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral defense cooperation during the third India-Indonesia Defence Ministers Dialogue held on November 27, 2025, in New Delhi, co-chaired by India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Indonesia’s Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. The discussions underscored the importance of a free and stable Indo-Pacific region and highlighted Indonesia’s recognition of India’s expertise in submarine development, particularly relating to the Scorpene-class program, which is significant for Indonesia’s future defense planning. The dialogue followed President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to India in January 2025 and reflected the growing momentum in bilateral defense ties under India’s Act East policy. Key collaboration areas identified include maritime security, joint operational readiness, and the impending BrahMos cruise missile deal valued at approximately $450 million, which would represent a major boost for India’s indigenous defense industry. Additionally, the ministers addressed broader multilateral cooperation frameworks and emphasized their shared commitment to peace initiatives in the region, including humanitarian efforts in Palestine. This evolving partnership reflects the enduring civilizational and maritime linkages between the two nations and strengthens their strategic cooperation on regional security.
