India's LR-AShM hypersonic missile enters production, enhancing naval deterrence.

India’s Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LR-AShM), a state-of-the-art hypersonic weapon system, has advanced into serial production following successful performance benchmarks, as announced by Dr. Anil Kumar of DRDO. With a range exceeding 1,500 kilometers and capable of reaching speeds of Mach 10, the missile enhances India’s naval deterrence against adversaries, particularly amid rising maritime tensions in the Indo-Pacific. Its design enables low-altitude gliding to evade radar, significantly improving strike efficacy against moving targets. This development, reflecting India’s growing indigenous defense capabilities, is crucial for maintaining strategic balance in the face of evolving threats from regional rivals, including China’s expanding naval forces and Pakistan’s submarine fleet.
