India’s defense industry is experiencing significant growth, driven by government initiatives that enhance research and development partnerships between public and private sectors. Key measures include opening 25% of the defense R&D budget to private entities, extensive technology transfers from the DRDO to around 2,000 industries, and the establishment of incubators and test facilities to support innovation. The government’s ‘Dare to Dream’ contests and the ‘Innovations for Defence Excellence’ (iDEX) program further encourage start-ups and MSMEs to engage in defense technology development. These efforts aim to achieve self-reliance in defense manufacturing and bolster the ‘Make in India’ initiative, ultimately strengthening national security and defense capabilities.
