India's BonV Aero UAV Enhances Civilian Logistics in Ladakh
India’s BonV Aero has advanced the strategic utility of its Air Orca heavy-lift UAV by extending its role from military logistics to civilian supply chains in Ladakh. Recently, the Air Orca set a world record by lifting a 30-kilogram payload at 19,024 feet over Umling La Pass, showcasing exceptional high-altitude performance. Since October 2025, trials have included beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights carrying essential cargo for up to 75 minutes. Operating in extreme cold, snowbound regions such as Zanskar, Nubra, and Changthang, the UAV aims to ensure year-round delivery of critical supplies like oxygen, vaccines, and food to communities cut off by harsh winters. Discussions on a dual-use model are underway to formally integrate the UAV for both military and civilian logistics, with coordination protocols and airspace clearances progressing. This indigenous technology represents a major leap in India’s aerial logistics capacity, bolstering strategic resilience along vulnerable northern borders.
