India's Archer-NG MALE UAV achieves successful maiden flight, enhancing defense capabilities.
India marked a significant advancement in its defense technology with the maiden flight of the indigenous Archer-NG Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on October 20, 2025, at the Aeronautical Test Range in Chitradurga, Karnataka. The Archer-NG completed a successful 45-minute flight, showcasing its capabilities in autonomous operation, advanced avionics, and fully indigenous turbocharged engine. Designed for both surveillance and armed operations, the UAV can carry payloads up to 300 kg and reach altitudes of 30,000 feet, positioning it as a vital asset for future military missions. Officials highlighted that the success of the Archer-NG reflects India’s drive towards self-reliance in the defense sector, aiming to reduce reliance on imports and bolster operational flexibility for the armed forces. The program, led by DRDO in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and other national agencies, is expected to further strengthen India’s aerial combat and surveillance infrastructure, with ongoing trials set to validate its operational readiness for deployment.
