Indian Navy to Issue Rs 80,000 Crore Tender for Four LPDs Soon
The Indian Navy is set to issue a significant tender worth approximately Rs 80,000 crore for the construction of four large amphibious warships, known as Landing Platform Docks (LPD), as part of its initiative to enhance amphibious warfare capabilities. Major Indian shipbuilders, including L&T, Mazagon Dockyards, and Cochin Shipyard, are expected to participate, with international firms likely serving as design partners. These warships will be equipped to handle aerial threats and possess offensive capabilities such as long-range missiles and drones, enabling them to conduct out-of-area operations and disaster relief missions. This development underscores India’s strategic emphasis on bolstering naval power in an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape, thereby enhancing its operational readiness and humanitarian response capabilities.
