Indian Navy to commission indigenous anti-submarine warfare craft 'Mahe' on November 24.
The Indian Navy is set to commission the first Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) named ‘Mahe’ on November 24, marking a significant milestone in India’s indigenous shipbuilding capabilities. Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, ‘Mahe’ is the first of eight such vessels and boasts over 80 percent indigenous content, showcasing India’s growing expertise in warship design and integration. Equipped with advanced torpedoes, multi-functional anti-submarine rockets, and sophisticated radars and sonars, the vessel is designed for submarine hunting, coastal patrols, and securing vital maritime approaches, thereby enhancing the navy’s operational capabilities in littoral waters. Named after the historic port town in Puducherry, ‘Mahe’ symbolizes India’s rich maritime heritage and the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, emphasizing self-reliance in defense production. This commissioning not only strengthens India’s maritime security posture but also reflects its commitment to advancing indigenous defense technologies and reducing dependence on foreign systems.
