Indian Navy to commission Ikshak, third indigenous survey vessel, enhancing maritime capabilities.
The Indian Navy’s indigenously built Survey Vessel (Large), Ikshak, is set to be commissioned on November 6, 2025, at Naval Base Kochi, under the auspices of Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff. As the third vessel of her class, Ikshak emphasizes the Navy’s commitment to self-reliance and advanced indigenous capabilities, showcasing over 80% local content through collaboration with Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers and Indian MSMEs. Designed for hydrographic survey operations, she also serves dual purposes as a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief platform and a Hospital Ship, while being the first SVL ship to accommodate women, reflecting the Navy’s progressive ethos. The induction of Ikshak reinforces India’s maritime capabilities and commitment to advancing hydrographic excellence in support of national security and regional stability.
