Indian Navy to Commission Androth, Second ASW-SWC Vessel
The Indian Navy is set to commission the Androth, its second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam on October 6, 2025. This advanced vessel, constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) with over 80% indigenous components, exemplifies India’s commitment to Aatmanirbharta and maritime self-reliance. Named after Androth Island in the Lakshadweep archipelago, the new Androth honors its predecessor, which served for over 27 years. Equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry and sensor systems, Androth will enhance the Navy’s maritime security capabilities, underscoring India’s resolve to build world-class warships through indigenous efforts and strengthen its maritime defense architecture in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.
