Indian Navy to Build Seven Stealth Frigates by 2025 Under Rs 70,000 Cr Project 17B

The Indian Navy is set to launch Project 17B, aimed at constructing seven advanced stealth frigates with an estimated budget of Rs 70,000 crore (around $8 billion). This initiative, expected to release a Request for Proposal (RFP) by the end of 2025, seeks to enhance the naval fleet’s capabilities with superior stealth features and advanced technology. The project supports the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative by emphasizing indigenous manufacturing, targeting over 75% local content. The construction will involve two shipyards, promoting competition and efficiency, with the first vessel anticipated to join the fleet in the early 2030s, significantly contributing to India’s maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.
