Indian Navy commissions Ikshak, boosting indigenous hydrographic capabilities.

The Indian Navy is set to enhance its hydrographic survey capabilities with the commissioning of the Ikshak, the third vessel of the Survey Vessel (Large) class, on November 6, 2025, at Naval Base, Kochi. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. with over 80% indigenous content, Ikshak exemplifies India’s commitment to self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Equipped with advanced hydrographic and oceanographic technology, including Autonomous Underwater Vehicles and a helicopter deck, the vessel will play a crucial role in ensuring safe navigation and maritime safety. This significant addition marks a milestone in the Indian Navy’s efforts to strengthen its survey capabilities and safeguard the nation’s maritime frontiers, reflecting a growing strategic focus on indigenous defense capabilities.
