The Plate Cutting Ceremony for the Indian Coast Guard’s fourth Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) occurred at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd in Mumbai on August 20, 2025. These indigenous 117-meter vessels, capable of 23 knots with a range of 5,000 nautical miles, feature advanced technologies such as AI-based predictive maintenance and remote piloted drones. This initiative under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision demonstrates India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense manufacturing, enhancing the ICG’s capabilities to protect national maritime interests effectively. The project not only strengthens India’s defense industry but also empowers the ICG to secure its extensive maritime domain.
