Indian Army's drone trials reveal vulnerabilities, prompting ₹10,000 crore investment in indigenous capabilities.

The Indian Army’s recent trials revealed significant vulnerabilities in its indigenous drone capabilities, particularly in GPS-denied environments during Operation Sindoor. None of the 46 domestic manufacturers successfully demonstrated resilience against advanced Pakistani electronic warfare tactics, leading to substantial asset losses and operational delays. The Army’s reliance on imported components and unproven technologies highlights critical gaps in electronic warfare preparedness. In response, the Defence Secretary announced a ₹10,000 crore investment to develop new prototypes that prioritize secure navigation and countermeasures. This situation underscores the urgent need for India to enhance its indigenous defense capabilities, ensuring that its drone ecosystem can effectively counter adversarial threats in future conflicts.
