Indian Army replaces over 1,000 foreign spares with indigenised alternatives, boosting self-reliance.
The Indian Army has made significant progress in its indigenisation initiative, successfully replacing over 1,050 spares and 60 major assemblies for foreign-origin defence platforms as part of its Year of Tech Absorption. This effort not only enhances operational readiness but also aligns with India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047. Notably, 55 of the 57 Special Clothing and Mountaineering Equipment (SCME) items for troops in Super High Altitude Areas have been fully indigenised, with the remaining items expected to be completed by 2026. These advancements reflect India’s commitment to reducing dependency on imports and strengthening its domestic defence manufacturing capabilities.
