India is set to enhance its defense capabilities with the local production of Safran’s Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range (HAMMER) guided bombs, following a Joint Venture Cooperation Agreement between Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Safran Electronics and Defence. This initiative, part of India’s #MakeinIndia and #AatmanirbharDefence campaigns, aims for approximately 60% indigenisation, encompassing local manufacturing and support for the HAMMER system to be deployed on Rafale fighters for both the Navy and Air Force. The collaboration seeks to bolster India’s defense industrial ecosystem by leveraging advanced guidance technology from Safran, thus reinforcing India’s military readiness amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
