India to finalize $1B deal with GE for 113 fighter jet engines by October
India is set to finalize a $1 billion deal with General Electric for 113 F404-IN20 fighter jet engines, crucial for powering the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A, with contract signing anticipated by October 2023. HAL Chairman Dr. DK Sunil affirmed that negotiations are complete, and deliveries will commence in 2027-28, supporting India’s defense indigenization efforts under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The recently signed contract for 97 LCA Mk1A jets reflects a significant stride towards self-reliance in defense manufacturing, boasting 70% indigenous content and bolstering local supply chains. This collaboration also emphasizes the strengthening of India-US defense ties and highlights India’s commitment to advancing its defense capabilities while reducing reliance on foreign technology.
