India to Develop 6th-Gen Fighter Jets with AI and Hypersonics

India is poised to indigenously develop sixth-generation fighter jets, as confirmed by DRDO’s K. Rajalakshmi Menon. The jets will incorporate advanced AI, hypersonic capabilities, and directed-energy weapons, marking a significant leap in air combat technology. India’s experience with the LCA Tejas and ongoing AMCA projects positions it favorably in this complex endeavor, supported by the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Despite global competition from nations like the U.S. and a European consortium, Menon expressed confidence in India’s skilled workforce and the growing role of private sectors like HAL and Tata, suggesting that these advanced capabilities could be realized in the next decade with adequate support and planning.
