India Signs ₹4,000 Crore BrahMos Deals, Enhancing Defense Exports Post-Sindoor Success
India has secured significant defense export contracts worth approximately ₹4,000 crore for the BrahMos missile system, as announced by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during the flag-off of the first batch of BrahMos missiles manufactured at the new facility in Lucknow. These deals, signed with two undisclosed countries in the last month, mark a pivotal transition for India from a defense importer to a prominent supplier, especially in the Southeast Asian region. This milestone follows the successful use of BrahMos missiles in Operation Sindoor in May 2025, which targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and demonstrated the missile’s precision and strategic value. Countries that have notably expressed interest in the BrahMos missile include the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brazil, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Chile, Argentina, and Venezuela. The Lucknow facility, inaugurated in May 2025, is expected to produce around 100 missile systems annually and generate a turnover of ₹3,000 crore from the next financial year, boosting regional economic growth and employment. This progress reflects India’s growing confidence in its indigenous defense capabilities under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and enhances India’s role as a defense technology leader globally.
