India-Russia Pact for Co-Developing Twin-Engine Combat Drones

India and Russia have formalized a joint protocol for co-developing advanced aero-engines, leveraging the AL-55I experience for twin-engine uncrewed combat fighter aircraft (UCFAs). This collaboration aims to enhance India’s indigenous defense capabilities, with a focus on technology transfer, localization, and testing. The agreement emphasizes producing a modular twin-engine configuration, offering redundancy for enhanced reliability in unmanned systems. With a target for prototype engines by 2027 and full-scale UCFA integration by 2029, this partnership aligns with India’s strategic goals in modern warfare, reflecting a significant step toward boosting defense autonomy and operational readiness in both land and maritime domains.
