India Prioritizes Rafale Jets Over F-35, Su-57 for IAF Strengthening

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has prioritized the acquisition of additional Rafale fighter jets under the long-awaited Multi Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) program, opting against the F-35 and Su-57 platforms. The urgency follows Operation Sindoor, which demonstrated the Rafale’s precision capabilities in combat, while the IAF currently operates only 29 squadrons against the backdrop of rising regional threats. A government-to-government agreement with France is being advocated to expedite procurement, as the IAF aims to bolster its fleet and maintain air superiority. The MRFA proposal is expected to progress within the Defence Acquisition Council soon, crucial for addressing the squadrons shortfall.
