India Launches Indigenous 2428 MW Marine Gas Turbine Program

India has initiated an indigenous 2428 MW marine gas turbine development program under the MAKE-I category, aiming to reduce dependency on foreign suppliers for naval propulsion systems. This ambitious project addresses historical reliance on imports and seeks to enhance operational sovereignty, cost-effectiveness, and technological advancement in marine engineering. The program’s three-phase roadmap includes prototype development, bulk production, and collaboration with public and private sectors, setting the stage for India to emerge as a global leader in marine turbine technology. Successful execution could also enable India to export advanced turbines to friendly nations, further cementing its role as a net security provider in the Indian Ocean Region.
