The inauguration of a dedicated manufacturing facility for High-Altitude Pseudo Satellites (HAPS) by CSIR-NAL marks a significant advancement in India’s aerospace capabilities. HAPS, operational at altitudes of 18 to 20 kilometers, promise persistent surveillance and telecommunications with lower deployment costs compared to traditional satellites. The facility aims to produce full-scale HAPS airframes, building on successful subscale prototypes, and is expected to conduct its first full-scale flight by 2027, targeting defense applications such as border monitoring.
