IAF to Boost Capability with More Rafales, Tejas for Su-30MKI Upgrades
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to enhance its capabilities by inducting more Dassault Rafale jets and indigenous Tejas Mk1A fighters, aiming for a notable upgrade of its aging Sukhoi Su-30MKI fleet by 2030. With a current sanction of 42 squadrons but only 31 operational, the IAF’s strategy addresses the obsolescence of the Su-30MKI, allowing for a phased Super-30 upgrade that includes advanced avionics and weapon systems. The planned acquisition of 114 Rafales and the induction of 60-80 Tejas Mk1A will ensure operational readiness while facilitating necessary upgrades. This approach strengthens India’s air defense amid escalating regional threats, showcasing a commitment to modernizing its military capabilities effectively and efficiently.
