IAF to Acquire Over 50 High-Altitude Pseudo Satellites for ISR
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is planning to procure over 50 High-Altitude Pseudo Satellites (HAPS), which will enhance its Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities across sensitive borders with China and Pakistan. These solar-powered platforms will operate at altitudes of 16 to 20 kilometers, providing persistent surveillance and acting as communication nodes while integrating with the IAF’s command systems. HAPS are expected to significantly improve India’s aerial monitoring, resilience against threats, and bolster its technological self-reliance through indigenous manufacturing. This strategic acquisition represents a transformative leap in India’s defense capabilities, addressing current intelligence gaps while enhancing deterrence along critical frontiers.
