IAF to Acquire 75 High-Altitude Pseudo-Satellites for Surveillance
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to procure 75 High-Altitude Pseudo Satellites (HAPS), designed for long-endurance operations at stratospheric altitudes of around 22 km. These platforms will provide persistent surveillance and intelligence capabilities, enhancing coverage over sensitive regions like the Line of Actual Control with China and the Line of Control with Pakistan. HAPS will utilize advanced technology for high-resolution imagery and electronic intelligence while remaining airborne for up to 12 months. This strategic move underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities, particularly in border surveillance and maritime domain awareness, bridging the gap between traditional drones and satellites.
