IAF seeks Ecuador's grounded Jaguars to extend fleet life until 2035.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is in discussions with the Ecuadorian Air Force to acquire remaining grounded Jaguar airframes, a strategic move aimed at extending the operational life of its Jaguar fleet through 2035. With the IAF being the last air force worldwide to operate the Jaguar in a frontline role, this acquisition is essential for obtaining hard-to-source spare parts. The IAF’s proactive approach includes recent successful agreements with France, the UK, and Oman to secure retired airframes and components, bolstered by significant upgrades under the DARIN III program. This initiative ensures the Jaguar continues to serve as a vital strike asset until the arrival of newer platforms like the indigenous Tejas Mk2 and the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).
