IAF seeks 100 ASPJ pods to enhance Su-30MKI electronic warfare capabilities.

In a significant move to enhance its electronic warfare capabilities, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for 100 Aircraft Self-Protection Jammer (ASPJ) pods tailored for the Sukhoi Su-30MKI fleet, marking a pivotal step in the Make in India initiative. These advanced systems will leverage Digital Radio Frequency Memory (DRFM) and Gallium Nitride (GaN)-based Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology to provide 360-degree jamming coverage, deceptive measures against modern radar-guided threats, and seamless integration with existing avionics. This procurement aligns with the larger Super Sukhoi upgrade program, aimed at modernizing the Su-30MKI into a fourth-plus-generation platform, ensuring its operational relevance against evolving regional threats, especially in light of recent border tensions. The RFI emphasizes local manufacturing and a minimum of 50% indigenous content, fostering self-reliance in defense technology while enhancing the IAF’s multi-role capabilities. The initiative not only promises to bolster the survivability of the IAF’s premier fighter fleet but also reflects India’s commitment to advancing its defense industry, ensuring cost-effective and sustainable solutions in critical areas of warfare.
