IAF Chief cites engine supply issues pushing HTT-40 deliveries to early 2026.
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh addressed delays in the delivery of the indigenous Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40) basic trainer aircraft, attributing the setbacks to engine supply chain disruptions. Initially slated for induction in late 2025, the first aircraft is now expected in early 2026, with HAL urging Honeywell to expedite engine deliveries. Despite current limitations in training capacity using existing aircraft, the IAF is managing to sustain pilot training temporarily. However, prolonged delays could jeopardize operational readiness amidst changing regional security dynamics. The HTT-40 is crucial for replacing aging trainer aircraft and advancing India’s self-reliance in defense manufacturing, emphasizing the need for timely resolution of supply issues to ensure the IAF’s preparedness.
