IAF and DRDO Gain Insights from Recovered Pakistani Missile Debris

Recent reports have confirmed that the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) have successfully recovered components from a downed Pakistani PL-15 missile, enabling a significant intelligence gain for India. The missile, discovered intact after being fired during Operation Sindoor, provides Indian scientists with a rare opportunity to analyze advanced Chinese missile technology, particularly its active electronically scanned array (AESA) seeker and dual-pulse propulsion system. This technical examination has prompted enhancements to the Astra MkII missile, with aspirations to boost its all-weather capabilities and extend its range to over 160 kilometers, placing it among the world’s leading beyond-visual-range missiles. The findings from the PL-15 debris are expected to accelerate India’s missile programs and influence future integrations with indigenous platforms. Amid rising tensions and Pakistan’s reliance on Chinese military technology, India’s advancements in missile development, including the planned induction of longer-range BrahMos missiles and the acquisition of Meteor missiles for the Rafale fleet, underscore a strategic response to potential aerial threats.
