HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has formalized a memorandum of understanding with Cochin Shipyard Ltd. to collaborate on the Indian Navy’s Landing Platform Dock (LPD) program, valued at approximately $9 billion. This partnership aims to enhance project planning, procurement, productivity, and personnel training, marking a significant step towards bolstering India’s naval capabilities. As part of its broader strategy to tap into the global shipbuilding market, HD Hyundai also plans to support the design and technical aspects of next-generation landing ships for the Indian Navy. India’s government has outlined an ambitious defense modernization agenda, which includes expanding its naval fleet by 175 ships, presenting opportunities for international collaboration. As HD Hyundai continues to diversify its production bases across regions, including new shipyards in Saudi Arabia and the Philippines, this partnership signifies an important alignment in strengthening India’s defense industry while elevating its shipbuilding technology to match global standards.
