HAL's TEJAS MK-1A fighter jet to have first flight test on October 17.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is set to conduct the maiden flight test of the first TEJAS MK-1A fighter jet from its Nashik facility on October 17, 2023. This facility, which has an annual production capacity of eight jets, is pivotal in supporting India’s goal of achieving over 70% indigenous content in defense manufacturing. The TEJAS MK-1A, a 4.5-generation aircraft with significant upgrades, including advanced avionics and electronic warfare capabilities, aims to replace aging MiG-21 squadrons and modernize the Indian Air Force’s fleet. This development underscores India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense and reflects HAL’s growing capability to integrate advanced technologies in aerospace production, enhancing national security and operational efficiency.
