HAL to boost Tejas production as MiG-21s are phased out.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is set to increase production of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mark-1A to counter the impending shortfall in the Indian Air Force (IAF) as the MiG-21s are phased out. HAL aims to boost its output from 24 to 30 aircraft annually by the end of 2027, with the first batch of up to four Tejas Mk1As scheduled for delivery between October and December. This strategic move comes as the IAF prepares for its lowest combat strength in 60 years, underscoring the urgent need to enhance indigenous aerial capabilities. The ramp-up in Tejas production reflects India’s commitment to bolstering its defense readiness and reducing reliance on foreign aircraft, marking a significant step in the nation’s push towards self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
