Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has initiated domestic production of the AL-55E engines for the HJT-36 Yashas intermediate jet trainer, marking a significant advance towards self-reliance in aero-engine manufacturing. The Yashas features enhanced avionics and aerodynamics, crucial for training pilots for advanced fighter jets. The AL-55E engine boasts improved thrust, reduced weight, and modern control systems tailored for the Indian Air Force (IAF). This initiative is part of India’s broader goal to achieve 70-80% indigenization in aero-engine production by 2030, which is essential for bolstering national defense capabilities and promoting indigenous manufacturing in the defense sector.
