HAL signs $1 billion deal with GE for 113 Tejas engines.
India has finalized a significant deal with General Electric worth over a billion dollars for 113 F 404-IN20 engines to power the indigenous Tejas fighter aircraft. This agreement, signed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is critical for maintaining continuity in the production of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) MK1a, with plans to produce 180 units. Additionally, HAL is negotiating a larger $1.5 billion deal for technology transfer to manufacture F 414 engines for the next-generation LCA Mk2. This strategic collaboration reinforces India’s defense capabilities and advances self-reliance in military aviation, crucial for bolstering national security amid evolving geopolitical dynamics. The ramp-up in production capacity will augment the Indian Air Force’s capabilities significantly over the coming years.
