HAL reduces HTT-40 deliveries to 3 units by FY26 due to engine supply issues.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has revised its delivery targets for the HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft, forecasting only three units for the Indian Air Force (IAF) by March 2026 due to persistent supply chain issues with Honeywell’s TPE331-12B engines. Initially, 12 aircraft were slated for delivery in the first year, but delays have raised concerns about the IAF’s pilot training schedules amid squadron shortages. Meanwhile, the development of the HLFT-42 trainer is progressing, with design finalization expected next year and a prototype rollout by 2031. The HLFT-42 aims to bridge the gap between basic and advanced fighter training, compensating for the absence of twin-seat variants in future combat aircraft like the Tejas Mk2 and AMCA. Both initiatives underscore India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense, with HAL optimistic about stabilizing engine supplies and enhancing domestic production capabilities to empower the IAF and address critical training needs.
