HAL boosts HTT-40 aircraft production to meet IAF training needs.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has ramped up production of the HTT-40 trainer aircraft, moving from trials to serial production amid a revitalized aerospace ecosystem in India. Following the grounding of the HPT-32, the HTT-40 addresses a significant training gap for the Indian Air Force, with a contract worth 6,850 crores for seventy aircraft. The platform boasts advanced features like a full-glass cockpit and zero-zero ejection seats, enhancing training capabilities. As HAL expands its role in both defense and civil aviation, the successful induction of the HTT-40 by early 2026 would affirm India’s self-sufficiency in defense manufacturing and bolster national capabilities, despite challenges in maintaining quality and meeting delivery timelines.
