HAL Awards ₹640 Crore Contract for Advanced Maritime Radar Systems to Lotus Technologies and IAI-Elta

Lotus Advanced Technologies (LAT) has secured a significant contract valued at over ₹640 crore from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the supply and integration of advanced Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Maritime Patrol Radar (MPR) systems onto the Indian Navy’s Dornier 228 aircraft. This strategic partnership with Israel’s IAI-Elta marks a pivotal step in enhancing India’s maritime surveillance, reconnaissance, and coastal security capabilities, aligning with the government’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. The AESA radar technology promises superior performance with features such as long-range surface search, rapid target tracking, and improved operational reliability, addressing complex maritime challenges faced by the Indian Navy. The integration of these cutting-edge radar systems is expected to significantly bolster the Navy’s ability to monitor and secure India’s extensive maritime jurisdiction, which is critical for national security and economic interests, especially amidst growing geopolitical tensions in the region. This development not only underscores the increasing confidence in private Indian defense firms but also highlights the ongoing transformation within India’s defense sector, positioning it as a more self-reliant player in strategic defense manufacturing.
