GTRE to create advanced Kaveri Marine Gas Turbine for Indian Navy.
The Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), under India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is initiating the development of a new variant of the Kaveri Marine Gas Turbine (KMGT) tailored for naval propulsion. This effort follows insights gained from the Kaveri Derivative Engine (KDE) and aims to rectify prior performance issues encountered during long-duration operations of the original KMGT. The redesigned KMGT will focus on enhancing reliability and endurance for maritime environments, ensuring high power output in demanding scenarios. This advancement signifies a crucial step in bolstering India’s indigenous defense capabilities, enabling the Indian Navy to operate more effectively while reducing reliance on foreign technology for marine propulsion systems.
