GRSE Signs $62.4 Million Contract for Hybrid Vessels with Germany

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has formalized a significant $62.4 million contract with Germany’s Carsten Rehder for the construction of four hybrid multi-purpose vessels, with an option for two additional units. This deal, which expands GRSE’s international presence, enhances its capabilities in eco-friendly shipbuilding by utilizing battery-assisted hybrid propulsion systems that align with International Maritime Organisation decarbonisation targets. The new vessels, measuring 120 meters in length with a cargo capacity of 7,500 tons, are designed to facilitate a variety of cargo, including renewable energy components. This partnership underscores India’s growing expertise in sustainable maritime solutions and reinforces the “Make in India, Make for World” initiative, marking a pivotal step towards enhancing India’s global competitiveness in the shipbuilding sector.
