Govt reviews performance of 16 Defence PSUs to enhance self-reliance.
The Indian government has conducted a recent review of the performance of all 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), focusing on their turnover, profitability, and efforts towards indigenisation as part of the “Aatmanirbharta” initiative in defense manufacturing. Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth highlighted that while there is no dedicated budget for research and development (R&D) within DPSUs, they allocate funds from their earnings based on market needs. This review underscores the government’s commitment to fostering self-reliance in military hardware production through enhanced R&D efforts, reflecting a broader strategic aim to strengthen India’s defense capabilities. The findings may lead to an action plan designed to improve the overall efficacy of the DPSUs in line with national defense objectives.
