Global Su-30 Operators Consider India's Astra Mk2 Missile Amid Supply Concerns
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is poised to initiate Limited Series Production of the indigenous Astra Mk2 air-to-air missile by 2026, marking a significant leap in India’s self-reliance in defense capabilities. With a striking range of 160 to 200 kilometers and advanced features including a dual-pulse rocket motor and AESA seeker, the Astra Mk2 aims to enhance the Indian Air Force’s combat superiority and attract global operators of the Su-30 aircraft, particularly those facing challenges with Russian missile supplies amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. This strategic development not only positions India as a key player in the defense market but also offers a viable alternative to outdated Russian missile systems, fostering stronger international defense partnerships.
