DRDO's VSHORADS development trials near completion, production expected by 2026.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India is nearing the completion of developmental trials for its indigenous Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS), aiming for production clearance by 2026. This fourth-generation man-portable air defence system is designed to counter modern aerial threats, including drones and low-flying targets, showcasing high precision during successful flight trials at Chandipur, Odisha. The VSHORADS features advanced technologies for target acquisition and is portable, enhancing operational effectiveness for frontline troops. Its successful development will significantly bolster India’s air defence capabilities, reduce reliance on foreign imports, and strengthen strategic autonomy, thereby addressing contemporary battlefield challenges posed by asymmetric threats.
