The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has received Bulk Production Clearance (BPC) for its Explosive Reactive Armour Mk-II (ERA Mk-II) following successful user trials on T-90 Bhishma tanks. This advanced armor significantly enhances protection against High-Explosive Anti-Tank and Kinetic Energy threats, exemplifying India’s commitment to indigenous defense capabilities under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The ERA Mk-II, designed for quick retrofitting, will bolster the operational lifespan and combat effectiveness of over 1,000 T-90 units, particularly in high-risk border areas. With a production cost under ₹50 lakh per tank set and potential for export to allied nations in Southeast Asia and Africa, this advancement underscores India’s growing self-reliance and strategic positioning in the global defense landscape.
